What is Paracord?

Paracord, commonly referred to as Parachute Cord, is a thin rope made of nylon with an inner core shielded by a woven outer sheath. It was first utilized by the military for a variety of uses requiring cordage, including suspension lines in parachutes. Over time, veterans discovered countless new applications for paracord, such as belts, fishing line, survival gear, shoe laces, and much more. One of the strongest and most reliable cords on the market is 550 Paracord.

The rope's 32-strand interwoven nylon sheath, or kernmantle, gives it a smooth texture. Seven nylon inner strands are enclosed in a robust and smooth sheath, both of which add to the cord's 550-pound tensile strength. The adaptable inner strands of paracord are an added benefit; they may be taken out if you require a more manageable yet sturdy string for a range of circumstances.

Expanding the usage of paracord even further, easily learn weaves, wraps and knots tailor made for easy unravelling in survival situations. In addition to all the utility functions paracord serves, another widespread use for paracord is crafting. Make bracelets, handle wraps, belts, lanyards, whips and hundreds of decorative items.

    550 Paracord - Solid Colors

Posted by ajo on Nov 14th 2021

Finding all these colours at large in the retail world is problematical at best so I was delighted to have been introduced to Paracord Planet ( and have since in my turn introduced another knot tier) by one of your other satisfied customers. I use 550 cord as is for closures for stuff sacks and with the inner strands removed to create a flat tape for tying zipper fobs. Great stuff and great service from Paracord Planet. Thank you for being there. --ajo

    550 paracord

Posted by Cece on Jun 1st 2021

Bought an aluminum folding lawn chair from an estate sale. The webbing was deteriorating. Removed the old webbing and restrung the seat and back with paracord by following the youtube video provided. It turned out beautifully! I was impressed with how great it looks. The cord was easy to use even at long lengths of several hundred feet of double stranded cord. Just keep it laid out as long as possible without piling it up (I ran it through the length of the house and back). Comb the strands with your fingers about 3 times for 4 foot lengths while weaving to prevent bunching.

I ordered the midnight blue, acid purple, and black. The colors were beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. I used it to make a dog collar that turned out great.
